Important Notes
Service Limitations
Graham Mobile Veterinary Weight Management Services is a companion animal mobile practice accredited with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario with conditions and limitations restricting services exclusively to weight management for pets residing in Ontario. All clients will be required to have access to a regular veterinary practice for comprehensive care for their pet and will be referred to their primary practice for any care needed beyond the scope of our services. We always strive to maintain open communication with the regular veterinary practice to ensure optimal continuity of care for the pet.
Complex cases such as those where serious medical conditions exist or where nutritional options are very limited may require referral to or consultation with a board-certified Veterinary Clinical Nutritionist to ensure the most suitable care for the pet. Additional fees for specialty consultations are not included in our package and service fees.
Food & Prescription Diets
In most cases a veterinary-exclusive product will be prescribed by Graham Mobile Veterinary Weight Management Services and we encourage clients to obtain the food through their regular veterinary practice although we do offer an online store as an alternative option. Occasionally we will recommend an over-the-counter diet that can be obtained through a local pet product retailer. The price of food is not included in our service and package fees and is at the discretion of the regular veterinary practice or local retailer.
The primary prescription brands we work with are Royal Canin Veterinary Diets, Hill’s Science Diet, Purina Veterinary Diets, and Rayne Nutrition. We do not work with raw or homemade diets; these will require referral to or consultation with a Veterinary Clinical Nutritionist and additional fees for specialty consultations are not included in our package and service fees
In cases where a diet change is required it is strongly recommended to pursue a gradual transition over at least 5 – 7 days onto the prescribed diet to maximize the likelihood of diet acceptance and minimize the risk of gastrointestinal upset.
Telemedicine
The College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), our provincial governing body, has recently updated their policy around the provision of telemedicine for veterinary services. The use of telemedicine in individual cases is at the discretion of the attending veterinarian based on their clinical judgement.
Graham Mobile Veterinary Weight Management Services firmly believes that, in the best interests of the pet and the client, the Comprehensive Consultation should be done in-person to establish a Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR), ensuring the most accurate assessment of the pet, and maximizing the likelihood of weight management success. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis, at the discretion of Dr. Graham, and may involve the regular veterinary practice to assist in completing the physical examination. There may be a fee incurred for the assistance in examination of the pet, at the discretion of the regular veterinary practice, and this is not included in our package and service fees. Subsequent Recheck Consultations are also ideally done in-person however we do offer customized telemedicine packages for extenuating circumstances.
